Fotune Cookie Soap Haul | Wax Melts

Fortune Cookie Soap makes some pretty awesome body and bath products which is their main focus.  I freaking love their cuticle and body butters!

But...I've always seen pretty lofty claims as to the performance of their wax tarts from reviewers.  I've seen people say they are the strongest they've ever tried or the scent lasts for days on end.  As they are a company that is very hyped on social media, especially youtube, I am always skeptical.  They have a lot of super fans, and that usually makes for quite biased reviews.

I was subscribed to the Fortune Cookie Soap subscription box for quite awhile, and each box came with a $10 off coupon code.  I saved them up, as I could never get on the site before the product I wanted was sold out, and decided to make a few small orders of their wax tarts to use them up.

Their wax melts come in 2oz scent cups.  I will have the scent descriptions for each wax tart below.  This haul is from a bit ago, a little after the Alice in Wonderland collection came out.

Also, if you are curious about their subscription box, you can check out my review and unboxing posts on my beauty blog HERE.

Cotton Candy

Official Scent Description: we cotton candied ALL THE THINGS!!

I gave this one away as a gift, but I remember it smelling true to the name.

Who Are You?

Official Scent Description:  ...what exactly are you smoking, vapor?  A mysterious mixture of crisp, ripe, pear twisted with tart limes, vanilla orchid, and a dash of raw cane sugar.

On cold, this one is extremely light.  I get a hint of sweet vanilla and lime.

I did melt this one, and there was little to no throw in my Glade warmer.

In The Loop

Official Scent Description:   If you have a major sweet tooth like us then In the Loop is your fragrance because it is sugary sweet just like the cereal it is named after Froot Loops!

On cold, this smells just like Froot Loops or Trix cereal with that candy lemon scent in the forefront.  It's quite strong on cold.  This is also the same scent as Tuscany Candle Lemon Sugar Cookies if you are a fan of that one.  (At least to my nose.)

I melted this one.  I got a light to medium throw about 3 feet around the warmer in my kitchen for a little under 4 hours.  This has been one of the better performers for me.

Twisted Tea Party

Official Scent Description:   That sounds like my kind of party, as long as you're serving Long Islands!  A light, refreshing, green tea with notes of sweet herbs, vanilla bean, cucumber, golden amber, and hints of neroli and geranium, stirred with a bright sprig of spearmint.

On cold, this is a very green scent.  I do get hint of cucumber, sweet floral, and a whisper of mint.  It is a medium scent on cold.

Off With Their Heads

Official Scent Description:   I just love my morning coffee and executions, don't you?  Groves of Meyer lemons and succulent oranges, mingle with a perfectly manicured garden of wild roses, violets, and star jasmine perfumed with romantic tones of bergamot and Egyptian musk.

On cold, I definitely get the fresh lemon first.  I get roses right behind that.  It's quite light on cold.  So, I can't pick up much else.

The Hound

Official Scent Description:   This exotic earthy fragrance combines top notes of tarragon, vanilla bean, and sandalwood with honey, caramel, amber and a beautiful woody musk with subtle hints of patchouli.

On cold, this one reminds me of incense.  I get sandalwood first with hint of patchouli and musk behind it.  It's quite light.

Vivid

Official Scent Description: We here at FCS are obsessed with Vivid, clearly, since we have it in everything! Some people say it smells like Hawaiian fruit punch, others say it smells like a fruity cocktail! Whatever it is, it's an addicting sugary sweet love spell!

I melted this one and did a review of it.  You can find it HERE.  It has been the best performing for me so far.

I had bought two of these and gave one to my friend.  She posted a review of it as well.  You can find that HERE.

Once a Beach, Always a Beach

Official Scent Description:  Balmy, sand, ocean and the sway of exotic trees rounds out this unique marine scent

On cold, this one reminds me of coconut scented sun block.  It has that sweet artificial coconut often found in those products.

I melted this one, and I barely got any scent throw at all in my Glade warmer despite doing the full 2oz tart.

Eat Me

Official Scent Description: I dare you...but not really, your tummy would hurt.  Scrumptious yellow cake with a fresh slathering of rich, creamy vanilla frosting, topped with fresh white pineapple slices and garnished with a sprig of blooming cilantro.

On cold, this one smells like a pineapple Dum Dum sucker to me.  It is that sickly sweet and artificial pineapple syrup scent.  There is also a hint of cheap vanilla extract in there.  I really don't care for it at all.  It's just not my type of scent.

Unicorn Farts

Official Scent Description: Even things magical and mysterious fart - like unicorns! We've all thought about it, don't deny it! FCS has created a fragrance that we believe is exactly what a unicorn's "fluff" smells like! So what does it smell like? Well, rainbows and glitter of course! What else?!

On cold, it really does smell a bit like a fruity fart.  There is an intense sweetness with a couple fruit notes behind it.  One I think is a candy banana scent while the other is something that hits the back of your throat.

Butter Beer

Official Scent Description: (couldn't find it)

I gave this one away as a gift soon after I made the order.  So, I can't tell much about it.  I think it is a Harry Potter reference about which I know next to nothing.  (Yes, I live under a rock.  It's quite cozy here.)

It's Only a Dream

Official Scent Description: Welcome to Wonderland, where playing cards come to life and everything is full of nonsense.  Calming verbena, lemongrass, calla lily, and citrus blended with leafy greens, ylang-ylang, rosewood, and ozone; with hints of soft musk and roses.

On cold, this is very floral.  I get the lily first with the ylang-ylang and musk behind it.  It's quite light.  So, it is difficult to distinguish more notes.  It smells really cheap to me as well.

Tree of Life

Official Scent Description: A dewy blend of lily and jasmine with lemon & refreshing ozone, tilled with damp earth and freshly cut green grass.

On cold, this one is about a medium.  I definitely get jasmine and some fresh aquatic notes.  It smells really refreshing and calming.

Futterwacken

Official Scent Description:  Not Here!  Everyone's Watching!  Sun warmed lilies brightened with a splash of grapefruit and a breath of fresh air.

On cold, I get an artificial citrus first with just a whisper of lily behind it.  It's pretty light on cold.

Almost Alice

Official Scent Description:   I'd rather be almost Alice than completely Bob--or Stan for that matter!  Fresh green snap peas and juicy pears brighten this bouquet of sweet pea flowers, and freesia, sprinkled with ripe berries.

On cold, I get the floral mix of sweet pea and freesia first.  Behind that, I get a green note and some sweetness. It's very nice and quite strong on cold.

Cupcake

Official Scent Description:   A rich, creamy aroma of vanilla cupcakes slathered with gobs of buttery icing.

On cold, this one is very light.  It smells like white cake icing.

PolyJuice Potion

Official Scent Description: Fragranced with a magical blend of fresh oranges, grapefruit, strawberries, ripe melon, peaches and kiwi..sprinkled with a touch of sugar.

On cold, this smells like sickly sweet fruit punch.  It's a dupe for Goose Creek Candles' Summer Slices, or at least I think so.

I melted this one, and it was pretty disappointing.  It started off quite light and never got stronger.  It might be okay for a small bedroom or bathroom.

We're All Mad Here

Official Scent Description:   ...which truly explains a lot!  Playful mint waters and natural leafy green notes perform a masterful balancing act with musky rich cedarwood.

On cold, this one is quite strong.  I definitely get a mix of green and musk with a hint of mint behind it.

Ordering, Shipping, Etc:

As for shipping, there is a starting flat rate of $6.75.  That means even if you order one item, you'll have to pay at least $6.75 to ship it. So, that is a bit of a bummer.  Turn around time is usually pretty decent.  Even at the busiest order times, I rarely have had to wait more than a week to ten days to get a shipping notice.

As for packaging, there was definitely a lot to be desired.  This was surprising for me as I'm used to their awesome packaging for their subscription box.

As shown in the picture above, the scent shot cups had wax all over them both inside the rim and the outside.  They were just messy and haphazardly thrown in the box.  In fact, they were this way in all the boxes as I made a few small orders to use up my coupons.  Way to make a girl feel special...

The product amounts were very inconsistent as well.  The wax levels in the scent shot cups, which are 2oz each on the site listing, were at different levels in each one.

They weren't just a hair off either, which would be somewhat expected as they are probably hand poured.  I had a few that were as low as .7oz which was half than what should have been in there.  Some were even in the same scent.

Over all, I was really disappointed in the sloppy packaging especially since the shipping fee was really high.

Final Thoughts:

Fortune Cookie Soap makes some body products that I absolutely love: body butters, cuticle butters, face scrubs, moisture bars, and shower steamers.  I also love the variety of scents they offer, as well as, their witty and awesome collections and labeling.

Honestly, their dang cuticle butter has saved my nails many a time, and I've yet to find a body butter as good as theirs.

However, I'm not that impressed by their wax tarts especially when I am used to wax vendors who have immaculate packaging, great shipping options, a variety of product options, and customer service that goes beyond expectations.

I've melted through a little more than a quarter of this order and will continue to do so.  So far, I'm not impressed by the performance either especially when I think of how other vendor wax that I've had has performed.  There is really no comparison.  I do good to get a light medium throw that goes a yard beyond the warmer for a couple hours even when I use the entire cup.

Would I order again?  If I had the money, I would definitely pick up some more of their body products that I mentioned above.  Wax tarts?  No, I don't think so.

*Not sponsored.  I bought these with my own money and coupons that I got from being subscribed to the company's quarterly box.

**These are my opinions based on my experience with these particular orders and products.  Your experience may vary.  Blah blah blah.
